Newbie Guide to NGE!
« on: 02-12-16, 06:52:05 »
Welcome to Decilation's Newbie Guide to the NGE!

This is my first attempt at a guide of this type, so please bear with me!

Before we begin, you should definitely take a look at the official "How to Play" post. It has information that is not on this guide. You can find that at the top of your screen or here!

If you are running via a Steam copy, please note that we have had a lot of issues regarding that client, and I recommend you follow this guide using Option 2. It will almost guarantee better results for you than patching over your Steam copy of the game.

I made this guide as an attempt to help out the new players all at once, hopefully reducing the stress each one feels as they enter this whole new world.

To assist in the navigation of this guide, I have added a Table of Contents.

We will start from the absolute most critical step.
Installing SWG!

So, first off. You'll want to download the Launcher here!

Once it's downloaded, go ahead and open it up. You'll need to extract the zipped files. If you don't know how, just watch this GIF.

I would suggest using "C:\Program Files(x86)\StellaLauncher\" / "C:\Program Files\StellaLauncher" if you run 32 bit.

Now you'll head over to it, and run it. I would also suggest you use this time to make it a shortcut on your Desktop as well.

When it boots up, it will ask you for a Destination folder. If you do not have the game installed anywhere else, complete the following.

Go to your Hard Drive that you want it to install to.
Create a New Folder named "Stella Bellum"
Do not put the game into the same folder as your launcher. It will mess it up and you'll have to start all over.

Now, hit "OK" and you're on your way! The Launcher will start downloading everything automatically, so just sit tight!
(Actually, I'd recommend if you're doing an entire install that you just walk away or play something else for a while. I mean a while... this is going to take quite some time to complete)

But, assuming you've followed the steps up to this point, you'll see something like this!

Congratulations, you can play SWG with all of us!

Option 2

You feel like the launcher is patching slowly for some reason, or for any other reason you'd like to do this instead?
That's fine, these are the steps I would personally recommend that you take.

First of all, you'll need to go ahead and download the largest parts of the game here. Once they have downloaded, extract them into the folder you are creating specifically for Stella Bellum. Then, go ahead and start the launcher and direct it to the correct stated directory. With this method, after you've extracted those files, you'll launch the Stella Bellum launcher and let it do what it does, and you should be able to play just fine!

***All credit for the links to the download for theLauncher and the download for the larger parts of the game go strictly to Stella Bellum's Development team. I had zero part in the creation of the Launcher, the download, and otherwise. The only thing I created were the screenshots leading through this guide. I do not take credit for the development of Stella Bellum in any way, shape, or form.

Secondarily, I am not a member of Stella Bellum's staff. Anything posted in this guide does not represent Stella Bellum, her staff, or otherwise. Any opinions posted in this guide, including recommendations and otherwise, are strictly a representation of what I believe. Please take that into consideration as you continue through our journey on this guide. Thank you.

Install and General FAQ's!

I followed your guide on how to set up my game however the client will simply not run. I tried each compatibility mode but it still doesn't work. I opened task manager and I saw that whenever i ran the client it would appear for a few seconds then just disappear from the task manager with no error message or anything. I've tried reinstalling the game twice with no luck

Solution : Login.cfg file was wrong. User downloaded one from the forums. You can also find it in the Stella Bellum Cantina Discord.

The Launcher keeps deleting files that I put in there as Mods.

This is because the Launcher deletes anything it doesn't have on it's Mod Whitelist. The Developers intended on this happening, so don't worry! If you believe a Mod should be whitelisted, contact Damo and I'm certain he'll be glad to help.

My game flickers and then crashes every time I launch it.

This is because you are running on a Windows 10 computer. No big deal, just activate Compatibility Mode for Windows 7 for your game and you're good to go. See how below.

Note : If you are not on a Windows 10 computer, or if you are and that didn't solve your issue, let me know! I know other methods of how to fix this but they require a bit more effort.

My login screen sits on "Connecting to Galaxy" or "Contacting Login Server"

Try checking your login.cfg -- there are many helpful posts around that show what it should have in it. If it's not right, you can download a proper one from most of those same helpful posts.

If your login.cfg is right, there are many possible reasons that include the login server being down. If that's the case, just hang tight and it'll be back soon!

I don't know what causes it, but sometimes all you need to do is relaunch the game. Occasionally down to the Patcher and allowing it to do it's thing.

Try running in Administrator Mode, because reasons?

If nothing else, PM me and we'll figure it out :)

My character is stuck in space!

Contact a GM or SilentGuardian.

More to come as they do.

Compatibility Mode

Now, what you'll need to do is right click on SwgClient_r and go to Properties.

This part may get confusing, just stay with me!

Once you're in Properties, hit the "Compatibility" tab. Go to the lower part of this tab and check the box "Run as Administrator" and hit apply.

You may want to enable "Compatibility Mode" for Windows 7. This is by no means required in order to run the game, but I've found that it gives some users better results. I'd say keep going and try to do without if possible, but if your game crashes instead of loading, go back to this step and try this.. If all else fails, PM me and I'll see if I can help you further.

Once you've done that, hit "Apply" and then "OK"

Stay tuned for the next part of the guide... mastering Tansarii Point Station.

Tansarii Point Station

Welcome to Star Wars Galaxies! You're finally done with the installation process and the game works! (Note: If the game doesn't work, please feel free to PM either myself or any member of SB Staff, or just post in "General Technical Support" with what's going on.)

Go ahead and create your character, now!

We'll start with choosing your profession.

Each player will have a different play-style, so there is no "Recommended" profession for anyone. We'll start with you!

Do you prefer Melee Combat?
Do you prefer Ranged Combat?
Do you prefer avoiding Combat?

There's a class for you!

Here's a list of the Melee Combat classes.
Jedi
Smuggler
Officer
Spy

Here's a list of the Ranged Combat classes.
Bounty Hunter
Smuggler
Officer
Spy
Commando
Medic

Here's a list of the Non-Combat professions.
Trader
Entertainer

You have to choose between one of these! You can easily, later on, find out which stats are right for your desired class choice here

Now that you've decided on your class, you'll start your tutorial with Han Solo. Afterwards, we'll see you on Tansarii! (Yes, I'm skipping the tutorial because it seems highly redundant to tutorial about the tutorial.)

You've now finished with Han Solo and your first couple of starter quests! You can now make the following waypoints in order to gather all of the quests available on Tansarii Point Station.

Quote from: Waypoints
/waypoint -6 16 Agent Falrey (Imperial Quest)
/waypoint -45 -34 Droid Engineer
/waypoint 18 -10 Frelka
/waypoint -21 42 Garek (Rebel Quest)
/waypoint 90 -19 Jolka
/waypoint -33 -30 Loche Crestingsky
/waypoint -38 -22 Raylen Finn
/waypoint -36 35 Rydel Delan
/waypoint -35 21 Security Director
/waypoint -1 -12 Wyle Artis

I personally recommend getting all of the quests at once and then going and doing them, as most of them require that you kill the same things for each other. Thus you can get all of them done in one quick sweep versus running back and forth between Quest Giver and "Inaldra's Lieutenant"

Ensure that you loot all of your bodies along the way in order to get ahead on Credits and Loots!

The first collection : Dust Durnis!

Around Tansarii Point Station, you'll possibly come across "an unsightly Dust Durni" and wonder, "What is that doing there? Maintenance! Clean-up on Level 2!"

But alas, Maintenance never comes. So it's up to you to keep Tansarii Point Station dust-free!

Upon completion of the Dust Durni collection, you will receive XP and a Feather Duster! This item is rare and good for decorating your home. Entertainers will take a special interest in Dust Durnis because of the Feather Duster. It is an item used for them in their dance routines! So make sure you get yours!

You can find these Dust Durnis at the following waypoints. OR you can just hunt for them manually! Up to you entirely!

Quote from: Waypoints
/way -17 -82 orange "Top Floor: Dust Durni #1";
/way 0 4 yellow "Middle Floor: Dust Durni #2";
/way 0 69 orange "Top Floor: Dust Durni #3";
/way 7 -21 green "Bottom Floor: Dust Durni #4";
/way 97 -11 yellow "Middle Floor: Dust Durni #5";
/way -60 -6 orange "Top Floor: Dust Durni #6";
/way 33 22 green "Bottom Floor: Dust Durni #7";
/way 57 12 yellow "Middle Floor: Dust Durni #8";
/way -11 42 green "Bottom Floor: Dust Durni #9";
/way -62 8 yellow "Middle Floor: Dust Durni #10";
(Source : SWG Wiki)

Once you've collected them all, here is your reward!

Can you even tell me that this isn't an appealing item? ;)

Tansarii Point Station Space

Welcome, new pilots! Here I'll teach you how to go about your space missions on Tansarii. It's very easy to get through them all in one go, if you'd like, but it will take a couple of hours minimum. So strap yourself in to your pilot's seat and let's get started!

Keep in mind that while you're out doing space missions and killing things in, well, space, you'll get access to new parts for your ship! Some of them will be better, some of them will be worse. Here's how you'll go about accessing these parts and installing them to your ship.

Run to the Starship Terminal on Tansarii Point Station, and use the ~ key (Tilda Key) to open up the radial menu. Select Option #2 (View Components) and look through what you have installed and what you have available. Notice stat differences, and if you see something that looks better give it a try by pushing "Load". If you don't end up liking the changes made to your ship's parts, you can always put the old parts back in there.

Your very first step is going to be to talk to Serissu. She can be found in Hangar Bay 1 standing right at the entrance. Speak to her to receive your first pilot mission, appropriately named, "First Pilot Mission." :)

It's pretty straightforward. Launch into space, go to Station Gamma, come back.

The next step to this quest-line will be to talk to Serissu again. She will congratulate you on learning the basics, and then send you out again on the mission Patrolling for Black Sun. You'll have to fly to an abandoned space station "Abandoned Hulk" and kill the three Black Sun Fighters hanging out around it.

Go back, turn it in, and go on the next mission named "Escort". During this mission you will need to escort a Car'das Officer's fighter to safety, and will come in contact with a few Surprise Attacks. My method behind these missions is always to target your escort and /follow it -- so as to avoid losing it. Go forward, attack your attackers, and then /follow the escort again. Repeat until the end of the mission. Go back, turn it in.

The next mission you will receive sends you to your next trainer, Laetin!

Laetin will send you on the mission Searching for Black Sun.

This mission is more complicated than it seems, as there is one particular part people have issues with. Luckily for you, you're reading this guide!

You have to fly to three different waypoints in space, no big deal there, right?

Next, you have to find the miner. The correct miner. There are plenty of them out there, but you're looking for one in particular. It happens to always be this one.

You must target this particular fighter in order to complete the mission. The NPCs around you will continue to attack the target, but fortunately for us they have worse aim than a Stormtrooper shooting at a Womp Rat.

Use [ to target the Engines, and disable the ship. Stop firing after the target's engines are disabled or you will have to wait for it to respawn and try again

After you've disabled the target, press "I" to inspect the ship, and then "U" to immediately begin docking with the ship. You will then receive the following results.

Next you'll have to fly back to Tansarii Point Station, but not land immediately. A Car'das agent will meet with you right next to it, and you'll have to dock with him. Afterwards, go ahead and land for your next mission.

The next quest is named, "Escorting the miner back to Tansarii Point Station"

During this quest, you'll basically just sit back and watch the Freighter fly towards the station and then hyperspace away. There's one surprise attack in the meantime, but just like the last escort mission just target the freighter and /follow until they show up.

Land, and receive your next quest: Warning the Allies

During this quest, you'll be given a waypoint roughly 5km away from the station to talk to the Dynath Agent. Upon his arrival, two Black Sun fighters will appear. You must destroy these two fighters and then dock with the agent. Afterwards, you'll be updated to "Black Envy, a Virus?" and given a waypoint 4.5km away.

Fly to it, and a Car'das agent will appear out of Hyperspace. "Do what you normally do" when you need to interact with a friendly space craft. Dock! "U" -- Afterwards, you'll return to Laetin.

Laetin will now give you "Assassinating the Assassin" -- to kill Talon Cobra. Launch into space, and fly to the given waypoint. You'll be ambushed at the second or third waypoint and then Talon Cobra arrives. Easiest way to deal with him would be to target his engines and disable him, then kill him.

Return to Laetin, and he tells you he's done with you. Now you'll go talk to Aleas, the Irish(?) Zabrak.

Your first mission with Aleas will be "Patrol: Bright Jewel Ribbon"

During this mission, you'll be given two waypoints. Go to both, and at the end of the first you'll need to destroy 4 Black Sun craft. There are 3 waiting for you at the second waypoint, and one more semi-close by. Once you're done, fly back and speak to Aleas again.

She will now give you "Kallor Brothers Rescue" -- When you launch to space you'll be given a waypoint leading to Weris's ship. When you arrive, you'll have to destroy his Black Sun escort and then target Weris's ship directly. Hit [ to target his engines, and fire until the engines are down. After that, he will contact you and you'll both start flying again. Destroy the surprise attack ships along the way, and he'll hyperspace out.

Next up is Sulale. Fly to the provided waypoint and target Sulale's ship. Press "U" to dock with him and begin repairs on his ship (Automated after docking) and he'll start flying again. Follow and escort him to safety. When he's safely out of the system you'll receive "The Return Home" - but the waypoint isn't Tansarii! Fly to it, anyways.

Upon reaching the waypoint provided, it will be changed to something closer to Tansarii. Fly to it again, and you'll be ambushed by two ships. Destroy them, and then fly towards Tansarii. 6 more appear, it'll be a fight, and you have to win it to complete this quest. But do it, and you'll be allowed to go back to Tansarii worry-free.

Land, and Aleas will provide you with another quest, "Black Sun Attacks" - go ahead and start it!

This mission gets a bit more complex. You have to fly to a given waypoint to destroy Black Sun Hunters or Black Sun Blood Stalkers. Neither of which spawn frequently in this area. There are, however, some near-by. I would advise going to /way -2234 2395 -36 to find more hunters that you can kill.

After you've done so, you'll be given a mission update to rescue an Agent in the thick of battle. I would advise that you go to this area, killing things as you're able to without prioritizing it, and dock immediately with this agent. After you've docked, he'll fly off. Follow him at a distance, and continue to turn around and shoot the enemy fighters that will tail you. This part gets complicated, and you may have to repeat it.

Next, you'll get "Caught in the Crossfire" -- and you'll have to go rescue a Dynath Agent. Fly to the given waypoint, and meet him there. You'll have a simple escort mission that has a few ambush points, but not much else. After this, you'll be grateful to head back to Tansarii Point Station!

Next, and against the wishes of Aleas, you'll launch a counter-strike against the Black Sun. Start "Vendetta : Vile Black Sun"

Rememer the waypoint earlier? It'll come in handy, now! You're not given a waypoint by the game, as your quest giver doesn't want you doing this. She doesn't think you're ready. Prove her wrong! You are ready. You read the Newbie Guide to NGE!

Go to the waypoint I gave you earlier and destroy two Black Sun Hunters or Blood Stalkers. After that, it will update and sit for a while. Kill some Black sun in the meantime, and an Ambush will occur! Defeat your ambushers, and then Arlem Demonhunter will appear. Destroy his ship, and then fly back to Tansarii Point Station. See? You were ready.

Finally, Aleas will give you some credit, and send you to Dartas.

Dartas will give you this mission "Precise Maneuvers"

The very first part of this mission is to go to a given waypoint, roughly 5km away. This will take some time, so kick back and enjoy the ride.

This mission does get hectic, I will forewarn you. It takes us to the area of Tansarii's Space that I least enjoy going to. Now, you'll have to kill roughly a total of 9-10 Black Sun Hunters, Bloodstalkers, and Spies before this mission is completed. Not all of them will count, but some will. Ultimately, just prepare yourself mentally and your ship physically  for this mission.

At the end of it all, you'll land and talk to Dartas again. We're getting very close to the end now, so don't worry...

After the Trinity

Now, this mission sends you 5km away from the Space Station once more, but this time to a different location. The thing with this mission is that it's essentially timed. You have to destroy everything in a fast enough manner to disallow the enemy craft from exiting the system into Hyperspace.

The way I like to go about this mission is to destroy the five fighters while slowing inching away from the station, as their respawn rate is ridiculous, and then when the commander arrives type /target commander and push the [ button to disable his engines, leaving him helpless. Turn around, destroy his fighter escort, and then kill him and proceed to the next waypoint. That's a perfect world, this isn't a perfect world. Try that, and don't be disheartened if you explode. If you have the next part of the mission, you're golden.

Rinse and repeat for the second part of the mission, then return to Tansarii Point Station and talk to Dartas once more...

Enter Darkveil Eclipse...

You're now sent on the final space mission for Tansarii Point Station. Many believe that this mission is difficult and should have at least two pilots doing the mission if not more. I agree, but I don't have another pilot to do this with me at the time of writing, so I'm going to tell you how I will go about solo'ing it -- which is probably for the best, because you're also likely going to solo it.

So the first part of the mission is to go to the given waypoint to disrupt enemy reinforcements. You'll only have to kill two ships at said waypoint, but more are around and will attack you on sight. The key to this is destroying the two ships that matter.

Next, the mission log updates. You're told to go to the new waypoint as "This is where the battle will take place, go pilot!" -- When you arrive there are NPCs of both sides dogfighting and it's up to you to save them! Destroy the 5 target ships, and the mission is complete. You will now return to Tansarii Point Station.

Land and talk to Dartas, and he will give you the "Hero of Tansarii Point Station" badge! :)

Congratulations, Pilot! You've finished the Tansarii Quest line!

I would also like to point out that doing only these missions got my character to Level 8 by themselves and earned me 46628 Credits minus the cost of repairs. So doing just space will get you pretty far in this game! :)

Good luck out there, Pilots!

Station Gamma

I do apologize if I miss some things, but things I am purposely not going over are profession missions that take you to Station Gamma. As I said earlier, I won't be tutorial-ing a tutorial.

So, there are a couple of quest-givers on Tansarii Point Station that give you missions to Station Gamma. These are Frelka and Ysanna.

You can find Frelka at /waypoint 18 -10 Frelka on Tansarii, or just talk to his droid on Station Gamma to start the quest immediately.

You can find Ysanna at /waypoint -1 8 Ysanna.

For Crazed Soldier, you will need to speak to   on Tansarii to start the quest.

The other two missions on Station Gama are Aquilla's Runs and Gathering Food Supplies.

The mission for Frelka's Folly is an easy one, as you just have to run downstairs and kill the Rak'qua Aphotic.

For the mission "Finding Food Supplies," - all you have to do is kill rats in that same first room until you have killed a total of 6 rats for 5 "meat".

As for Aquilla's Runes, you are given the first 6/8 as waypoints in your Datapad. Just go them and click them, and you'll receive credit for finding them. The other two do not have a waypoint.

That was the 7th Rune, which is found hiding behind a wall.

The 8th rune is found being guarded by Ageaughu (Overlord's Pet) - A CL10 Elite Acklay. You can either kill him, or just avoid him.

As for the mission "A crazed soldier" found on Tansarii Point Station, you will need to find, and kill, the Crazed Soldier. He can be found in a room in the middle-level of Station Gamma with a few other enemies that will attack you on sight.

And that's about it for Station Gamma! Sorry that this part of the guide is a bit rushed, I actually wrote it all out yesterday when my tab was over-ruled by a Google Chrome extension warning. >_<

Rattletrap ITV

Seeing as we are unlikely to see Veteran Rewards for some time, I think this is a good addition for those looking to get an edge on the questing progression. The Rattletrap Instant Travel Vehicle is obtainable through a small collection that requires very little effort to complete.

Instant Travel Vehicles are used to get players from the wilderness to a city in no time flat. All you have to do is call it on a flat, open area in the wild and it'll take you where ever you need it to!

In order to obtain this vehicle, you will need to visit the following waypoints in game.

Quote from: Waypoints
/way tatooine 3568 -4813 What a Piece of Junk #1 (Mos Eisley);
/way tatooine -1324 -3572 What a Piece of Junk #2 (Bestine);
/way naboo 5243 6660 What a Piece of Junk #3 (Kaadara);
/way corellia -103 -4739 What a Piece of Junk #4 (Coronet);
/way tatooine -2877 2097 What a Piece of Junk #5 (Mos Espa);

/way talus 4474 5313 What a Piece of Junk #7 (Nashal);

Nice job bud, I did it both ways but it was easier to do option 2 and people should stop trying to use the steam download since it causes so many issues. Also everybody should upgrade to Windows 10 cuz it is much easier to play especially if they have 8.1

Haha! After getting started on a guide like this, I wanted to throw some silliness into it via the credits section. I figured what better to do than make it Star Wars related? :)

Nice job bud, I did it both ways but it was easier to do option 2 and people should stop trying to use the steam download since it causes so many issues. Also everybody should upgrade to Windows 10 cuz it is much easier to play especially if they have 8.1

I wholeheartedly agree. I'm going to actually edit that in to the TOC in red, so hopefully some Steamcomers will be able to notice it before moving forward at all.

Nice thank you! I would have preferred a few more arrows and squiggly bits :)

Stay tuned for the next few parts of the guide, then! Haha.

Yes! Through your patcher, go to Settings. This will open SwgClientSetup_r for you.

How do I start a guild?

You can start a guild by obtaining a PAGR, <Player Association Galactic Registry> from a vendor or the bazaar.
